The estate sibling of the recently announced new Peugeot 508, the 508 SW is due to arrive in January 2019. Aiming to take on the SUV market by proving practicality needn’t come at the cost of style, it sports chic looks and a lower stance, giving it on-road appeal to impress even the most discerning motorists.
The Peugeot 508 SW’s front end is similar to that of the saloon, with vertical daytime running lights drawing the eye down to a front spoiler and a distinctive grille inset with the Peugeot lion. The saloon’s coupé style rear is replaced by a practical, muscular rump adorned with 3D lighting elements, while frameless doors contribute to the overall sense of sophistication.
The interior features the familiar i-Cockpit setup, which brings every trim level a wide selection of features. Ergonomic wrap-around seats provide optimum comfort to those who spend a lot of their day in the driver’s seat, and the cabin’s high-quality finishes and textured surfaces lend a classy feel throughout.
Despite its lower stance and tapering roofline, the new Peugeot 508 SW doesn’t lose out on cabin space. The seating position is lower, which allows for ample headroom, while legroom is uncompromised, leaving both front and rear passengers plenty of space to stretch out and relax.
The boot capacity is only slightly reduced, being able to accommodate 530 litres with all seats in place, but this is offset by the addition of roof bars, which offer additional practicality. With the rear seats folded down, the boot can swallow up to 1,780 litres of luggage – plenty for any trip.
As you’d expect from a modern estate car, the 508 SW benefits from the latest technology. The 12.3-inch dash display can be customised to offer your preferred information, while a separate 8.0-inch touchscreen is used to control music and phone functions. The i-Cockpit supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, enabling you to access your smartphone apps on the touchscreen, and a wireless phone charging station ensures you can stay connected however long the journey.
At launch, the new 508 SW will be available with two petrol and three diesel engines and a choice of manual or automatic transmission. A plug-in hybrid variant is then rumoured for release later in the year.
Peugeot is expecting to deliver class-leading CO2 emissions and each engine can be specified with adaptive suspension that enables you to tailor the ride according to the conditions and your preferences. Eco, Sport, Comfort and Normal modes will be available.
